Mallorca, the paradise for a luxury regatta
From June 19 to 22, 2019, the luxurious superyachts with a minimum length of 24 meters will meet in the Bay of Palma for the Superyacht Cup, this year celebrating its 23rd anniversary. The event is considered the oldest regatta of this size in Europe. The four day Superyacht Cup in Palma is an annual event since 1996.
As the temperatures in Mallorca begin to rise, the season for regattas and yacht races starts on the island. The Balearic Islands, especially Mallorca, are often host to many of the world’s most prestigious events. The Mediterranean is known for being a popular destination for superyacht, yachting and classic sailing regattas worldwide. The mix of great weather, crystal clear waters, vibrant little villages, breathtaking scenery and the coolest city in Europe, Palma de Mallorca, with the unique harbor setting, the beautiful La Seu Cathedral, make Mallorca the perfect place for all boat lovers.
The superyachts compete at no other place in Europe over a longer period than in Palma. From 19 June 2019, it’s time again for this stunning high class event. Countless captains including crew, yacht owners, as well as sailing fans from all over the world come to the island capital Palma, to be present at this exciting regatta.
While owners, skippers and crews are looking forward to the opening day of the regatta on June 20, there are still newcomers to the already impressive fleet. The most recent is the stunning Meteor, which returns to the Superyacht Cup for the first time since 2007. At 51.5 m, the winner of the World Superyacht Award is the largest yacht at this year’s sailing party.
Meanwhile, those who repeatedly participate in the Superyacht Cup Palma – like the participants Missy, Velsheda and Win Win from 2018 – make use of improvements in the always vibrant Race Village in the heart of Palma. The redesigned village will provide more space for owners, guests and crews to enjoy the events and parties during the three day regatta. There will be special areas for the many partners, friends and suppliers of the Superyacht Cup.
These include the new event partner Omega, which welcomes the international luxury watch manufacturer as the official timekeeper on board, and Marinepool, the official clothing supplier of the Superyacht Cup.
Event Director Kate Branagh and her team will, as always, strive to deliver the magical mix of action on the water and a laid-back ashore that has proven to be a great success. And according to a regular participant, it’s a mix that appeals directly to superyacht owners.
23rd round of the Superyacht Cup
The regatta is led by the experienced international race directors and the team of the Real Club Nautico de Palma. You can only participate if you have a yacht with a minimum length of 24 meters. Some of the participating sailing yachts are among the largest in the world. The Superyacht Cup Palma is the oldest regatta of this size in Europe, first held in 1996, this year celebrates its 23rd anniversary. So far, 22 impressive yachts have been registered. The start is on the 20th, 21st and 22nd of June at 1pm.
Be part of this first class sailing event and visit the Superyacht Cup in Palma de Mallorca. For the spectators it is particulary worthwile to visit the old pier on Saturday, June 22nd. Since the race is a private event and participation is only possible for invited guests, you will not actually have access to the closed zone. But there is a small exception that gives you access to the most spectacular yachts. The race village is open to the públic on Saturday, the 22.06. from 09:00 to 13:00, a visit to the old pier is especially recommended.
