December in Mallorca is mysterious and unpredictable in terms of weather. It can be warm and lovely (often over 20 °C at Christmas’s eve most of the time), or it can easily be rainy and blow the colder winds. But! It is definitely filled with Christmas mood, food and full of pleasant troubles.
During Christmas time on Mallorca, you can taste traditional Spanish Christmas delicacies such as dozens of different varieties of turron, polvoron, cordiales apart from many others.
The great thing about December is the Christmas markets in almost every city. We will tell you about the most significant, beautiful Christmas markets so you can enjoy the Christmas spirit.
CENTER OF PALMA DE MALLORCA
Let’s start with the center of Palma de Mallorca. Festively decorated stalls at Plaza Mayor, el paseo de la Rambla, Vía Roma, plaza des Mercat, plaza España and plaza de la Porta Pintada are filled with the most wonderful things, mostly handmade. Need a gift? Christmas tree decorations? A scarf and a hat because ears are cold? Here you are in the right place! Starting November 26, the market is open from 10 am to 9 pm.
PUEBLO ESPANYOL
Pueblo Espanyol is another big place on our Christmas list. This emblematic site represents the most famous monuments and historic buildings in Spain. Typical Spanish streets turn into magical alleys on Christmas Eve. Buildings are illuminated with neon lights, garlands and stars are everywhere. Lots of places to sample a wide variety of food and drinks. Children’s entertainment and concerts. Pleasant fatigue and excellent mood are guaranteed. Opening hours: from 16:30 to 23:00, and on weekends and holidays from 12:00 to 23:00. Entry costs €7 for adults and €2 for children and includes a glass of mulled wine or chocolate.
PUERTO PORTALS
Puerto Portals, Christmas stall
Puerto Portals. Chic and glamour, this is Puerto Portals. It adds a Christmas spirit to its luxury yachts, top restaurants and elegant boutiques in December. This Christmas market was selected by the German newspaper “Die Welt” as one of the five best Christmas markets in Europe and is famous for an exceptional cultural program for all ages, live music, workshops for children and a visit to Santa Claus. You will be pleasantly surprised by the festive atmosphere with wooden stalls, Christmas carols, glasses of mulled wine. There is also an ice skating rink. Opening hours Monday through Thursday from 12:00 to 21:00. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 12:00 to 22:00.
SON AMAR
Son Amar. This estate, created in 1563, retaining its charisma, was transformed 50 years ago into a show palace. Recently, Son Amar has started organising Christmas days with a traditional market, a visit by Santa Claus and an ice rink, where you can spend a day or evening in a great atmosphere with family and friends. Open from Friday to Sunday from 13:00 to 23:00. Entrance €5 – adults, children free.
Beyond Christmas rush, get ready for the New Year. On December 31st, you can enjoy live music and shows in different spots of Palma. When comes midnight, you need to eat 12 lucky grapes and start the year from 0 enjoying a colourful and exciting fireworks show.
