May 2022 Mallorca

6 May 2022 |

Wake up everyone who was between sleep and wakefulness! Those who did not dare, all gathered, and swayed, only dreaming about the distant and unrealizable. Get out, run out, open up! May has come!
Mallorca woke up fully, and life is beginning to churn. So many small and big events are happening in May. It would be a long read if we speak about all of them so we selected the most impressive for you.

The 18th Palma Vela

Palma Vela Regatta, Palma, Mallorca, Spain

Eight Maxis will join the rest of the fleet in the bay of Palma, which is made up of a hundred teams representing 20 countries from three continents.
The second edition of La Larga-The Offshore Race of PalmaVela, which will start from the Bay of Palma at 12:00 on Sunday, May 1, will be the first act of the 18th PalmaVela. This is the first major event of the year in Europe on the international regatta calendar and will feature a “high-flying” entry thanks to the once again incorporation of the long-distance fleet with the Maxis of the IMA (International Maxi Association). In this 18th edition of PalmaVela, almost a hundred teams will meet with the ORC, Swan 42, J80, Dragon, Época, and Clásicos.
It is a very varied regatta with a fleet of small lengths such as the Dragon and large ones such as the Maxi. Normalcy seems to be installed again in the world of sailing and, in addition, PalmaVela is part of the IMA 2022 Regatta Calendar (qualifying for the IMA Mediterranean Maxi Inshore Challenge 2022) and will be the first test of the Mediterranean Sailing Circuit for classes ORC and Monotypes.

El Firó de Sóller

Medieval battle, Soller, Mallorca, Spain

The event will gather 7,500 people again in his final battle.
The elimination of sanitary restrictions due to Covid allows one of the popular festivals with the most projection on the island to return.
One of the biggest festivals of the year in Mallorca and definitely one of the noisiest. It runs over four days with events being held in both Sóller and Port de Sóller.
Expect parades, live music, and market stalls within the ancient fishing town over the weekend. The main event is the re-enactment of the battle between the people of Sóller and the invading “Moors”. Black face paint, lots of fireworks, and a fairly Mallorcan disregard for health and safety make this one of the best days of the year to visit Port de Sóller. The famous beach battle takes place on Monday afternoon/evening.

Ironman Mallorca – Alcudia

Iron man Zafiro, Alcudia, Mallorca, Spain

One of Europe’s most famous Ironman races in the stunning resort of Alcúdia.
Fancy a beautiful course through scenic Spanish island villages and sweeping ocean views? The Balearic island of Mallorca is not only a training paradise for triathletes from around the world but also host to one of the largest IRONMAN 70.3 events in the world, the Zafiro IRONMAN 70.3 Alcúdia-Mallorca. A fast course in beautiful and sunny Mallorca, this race has been a global favorite harbor for over a decade.
The swim course – 1.9 km – takes place in the city’s harbor, where competitors can expect a soft, sandy shore and views of steep cliffs and secluded coves. The bike track – 90 km – follows a challenging route mixed with hills and flat stretches. Finally, for the run, athletes will return to Alcudia’s picturesque beach after more than 21 km.

Pollença Wine Fair

Wine fair, Pollensa, Mallorca, Spain

The Pollença Wine Fair returns with the participation of 36 wineriesThe perfect date and a great opportunity to enjoy Mallorcan wines.
The XIX edition of the Fira del Vi de Pollença will be in action in 2022 on May 7 and 8 at the Can Conill venue with the participation of 36 wineries, two more than the last fair. The objective, according to the organizers, is to taste and discover the wines that are presented, since a small tasting is enough to capture the essence of a wine. In addition to being a meeting point for producers, distributors, and restaurateurs.
The hours of this year’s edition will be Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The price of admission will be 15 euros, of which 5 will be a voucher to buy wine. The price will include a glass of wine, a bag, and an explanatory booklet. There will also be a tasting space where you can enjoy guided tasting sessions that some of the participating wineries will do, as well as some surprises pending definition.
In addition to the thirty-six Mallorcan wineries, there will be a representation of twenty-one DO Montsant wineries, from the Falset area (Priorat), thanks to the third twinning of fairs between the Fira del Vi de Pollença and the Falset Wine Fair.

The medieval market of Capdepera

Medieval market, Capdepera, Mallorca, Spain

It is held every year (during the third weekend of May), in commemoration of the foundation of the town of Capdepera by King Jaume II in the year 1300. The market goes back in time to medieval times to publicize how the inhabitants of Capdepera lived back then.
The Mercat Medieval takes place in the Castell de Capdepera and adjacent streets. This popular event takes advantage of the presence of the castle to turn the town into a medieval fortress.
The town dresses up as medieval and is filled with lights, colors, sounds, and smells that transport visitors to the Middle Ages. In the market, we find different artisans; blacksmiths, herbalists, silversmiths, carpenters, jugglers, shoemakers, magicians, embroiderers, sculptors, cheesemakers, and potters, among many others. The public can also enjoy the music, clothes, and games typical of medieval times.

So as you can see May 2022 in Mallorca is full of fun and positive emotions. The weather is stable and May is considered the second less rainy month of the year in the region apart from July. So it’s the perfect time to get offshore on board of one of our yachts. Check and reserve your favorite one here.

We are happy to remind you that almost all sanitary restrictions lifted on Balearic islands except for the usage of masks in public transport and hospitals.

Please confirm the actual rules to enter Spain here.
